Are you looking for an activity that teaches your child respect, confidence, and discipline? In this episode of Homemade PA, I’m taking you inside Eagle Martial Arts in Mechanicsburg, PA where my son Grayson does Karate! You’ll meet owner and Instructor, Kabir Amani, who will tell you all about his journey opening this amazing martial arts school in the heart of Mechanicsburg!

How Eagle Martial Arts Started

Instructor Kabir Amani started Eagle Martial Arts in 2017, when he was just 20 years old! He grew up doing multiple forms of martial arts and has a passion for the sport. He always looked up to his own teachers and began helping to teach the younger students when he was in high school.

“My goal after middle and high school was really, if I want to do something, I want to have a martial arts school.” Said Instructor Kabir.

Kabir admires most, the confidence the sport and his past teachers brought to him and felt inspired to pass this onto new students. Eagle Martial Arts is now serving over 300 students and is continuing to grow!

The Black Belt Journey

Since Kabir studied multiple different forms of martial arts while also participating in other sports like wrestling, he wanted to bring a variety of fighting forms into his curriculum. His main goal is to teach each is students self-confidence, by teaching the abilities they need to stand up for and defend themselves when necessary.

“It’s mainly to just have that self-confidence that the kids need these days more than ever before.”

Each student begins as a White Belt and can test up to the next belt every two months. They have a lot of different belts, and the students must learn and test a variety of skills to move onto the next one. It takes about three years to earn your Black Belt, but they always encourage each student to move at their own pace.

A Positive And Encouraging Environment

The atmosphere at Eagle Martial Arts is absolutely incredible! It doesn’t matter what kind of day you are having because when you come to class, the positivity is amazing. Each instructor is incredibly patient and always corrects the students in a positive manner.

“I think it’s important for us as instructors to go through our continuous education when it comes to child development and child behavior. There is a purpose of why we talk a certain way.”

Kabir and his instructor choose the highlight, improve, and teach, rather than picking apart what their students are doing wrong. They believe that children don’t learn that way and strive to create a positive and uplifting learning environment for their students.

Instructors Who Lead By Example

All the instructors at EMA compete whenever they have the opportunity. They mostly compete in Mixed Martial Arts, Kickboxing, and Jiu Jitsu. Kabir feels that it is important for them to lead by example, so if any of their students want to compete, they can be their to support them in that capacity as well.

With a background in Tung So Do, Taekwondo, Boxing, and Wrestling, Kabir is prepared to train and encourage his students to compete in a variety of different disciplines.
